Managing ADHD: My Own Daily Strategies for Wellbeing

In recognition of Neurodiversity Week, I wanted to share my personal journey with ADHD and how it impacts my mental health and wellbeing. Living with ADHD means navigating unique challenges, but it also highlights that we’re all wired differently, each with our own struggles.

Living with ADHD isn’t just about the challenges; it’s about discovering strengths and unique ways of interacting with the world. This Neurodiversity Week, as I reflect on my personal experiences, I’m reminded of the importance of embracing our neurodivergent selves.

Each of us has a distinct path, and learning to navigate it with self-compassion and understanding is key to our mental wellbeing.

In this post, I’m sharing the daily behaviours that help me overcome some of the challenges I encounter and hope maybe some of what I have written resonates with someone reading this article

The Daily Behaviours That Work For Me:

  1. Exercise: Staying active helps me focus and reduces anxiety.
  2. Calming Playlist: Music is my go-to for calming my mind.
  3. Structured Routine: Keeping a consistent daily schedule provides stability.
  4. Giving myself 20 mins to focus on my main priority for the day:  If I pick one and I do more than one that’s an absolutel bonus to me
  5. Healthy Eating: Nutritious food plays a crucial role in managing my energy levels and mood.

Having ADHD means my brain is never quiet.  It’s like having a squillion tabs open at any one time on your laptop.  Last time I checked it was 61, please don’t judge me!

Learning new skills, reading endless books is one way I seem to be able to silence some of the noise as it makes me focus on one particular thing.  Understanding ADHD and how to handle its challenges is a subject I have read up on over the years.  I’ve picked up tips and interventions to help me through the lows.

Below are a couple of books I have recommended to other people that I know with ADHD so thought I’d share.

This is such a great read.  It provides comprehensive strategies to effectively manage ADHD in various aspects of life, including work, home, and relationships, offering valuable insights for adults seeking practical guidance.

Recommended by a friend, this book offers practical and tailored organising advice for individuals with ADHD, focusing on simplifying their lives and creating manageable systems to improve overall organisation and daily functioning.

These books offer great insights and strategies for anyone navigating ADHD and mental health.

Managing ADHD is a continuous journey of learning and adapting. I hope my experiences and tips help at least one person out there. If you’re interested in the books that have helped me, check them out through the affiliate links.
