How Our Private Therapy Route Works

Mind Matters NE CIC connects individuals with independent, qualified therapists and counsellors who provide one-to-one support privately.  These practitioners are not employed by Mind Matters NE and work under their own professional registration, insurance and supervision.

This model ensures that anyone seeking therapy can access high-quality, ethical support while keeping a clear boundary between our community programmes and independent practice.

Free 30-Minute Telephone Consultation

Before starting therapy, every client is offered a free 30-minute telephone consultation with an independent practitioner.  This gives you a chance to ask questions, discuss what you are looking for, and decide whether therapy feels right for you.

There is no obligation to continue afterwards.

Session Fees

Session fees are set by each independent practitioner and may vary based on experience, specialism and session type.
Typical session rates are:

  • Individual therapy or counselling: £50–£65 per session (50 minutes)

  • Online sessions: £45–£60 per session

  • Couples or relationship sessions: £70–£85 per session

All fees are agreed directly between you and your chosen practitioner before sessions begin.

There are no hidden charges or admin fees from Mind Matters NE CIC.

Session Frequency and Duration

  • Sessions are usually held weekly or fortnightly, depending on your goals and availability.
  • Your practitioner will discuss what works best for you during your introductory call.
  • You can end or pause sessions at any time by letting your therapist know.

Payment Options

  • Payments are made directly to the independent practitioner.  Most accept bank transfer, card payment, or online invoicing through secure platforms such as Stripe or SumUp.
  • Invoices and receipts are provided for each session.

Community and Funded Support Options

If you are not looking for private therapy, or prefer community-based support, we also run a range of free and funded well-being programmes through our social enterprise work.  These include Doorstep Connections, Bike and Banter and Connect and Thrive.

Each programme focuses on confidence, connection and everyday well-being, with no diagnosis, waiting list or payment required.

When Therapy Might Be Helpful

Private therapy and counselling can help you explore challenges such as:

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Low mood or loss of motivation

  • Bereavement or change

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Confidence and self-esteem

  • Adjusting to life changes

If, during your involvement in our community programmes, you feel you would benefit from structured one-to-one support, we can introduce you to a trusted independent counsellor or therapist through this private route.
