Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week: 13th-19th May 2024
We are dedicated to ending the stigma on mental health discussions at Mind Matters NE and making sure there is help and support for anyone who wants it this week onwards 13th to 19th May is designated as Mental Health Awareness Week a period meant for promoting talks about mental illness and spearheading quality mental healthcare for all experiences.
Understanding Mental Health
Emotions, socialising, and psychology are the three essential elements of our mental well-being. Thinking, doing and feeling are all controlled by this state of being. How we relate with other people, perceive things, as well as handling stress are all determined by it. In other words, Mental Health Awareness Week allows us to remember that physical health should not take precedence over mental health.
What can you be doing during this week?
-
- Self-educate and educate others: to reduce the stigma on mental health sicknesses you have to conduct some reading around these topics. With knowledge comes understanding which can contribute towards promoting empathy while assisting the individuals grappling with mental health-related problems.
- Talk to others, other people might be struggling too: Tell about your own experiences in mental health. Through it, others may be encouraged to seek help and feel less lonely.
- Check-in with Others: It’s quite important to see how people are doing. This might be co-workers, friends, relatives, or someone you haven’t spoken to or seen in a long time. Sometimes, it turns out, all someone needs to know is that someone is watching out for them and has their back.
If You Are Struggling, Help Is Available
If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed, remember that you are not alone. Numerous resources are available to help you manage and overcome your mental health challenges:
- Reach out to a Mental Health Expert: Consider signing up to see a psychologist or counsellor for expert advice.
- Get in touch with support systems: Friends, family or support groups are some of the people who could offer you an ear or a shoulder to lean on as well as advice.
- Use Crisis Resources: In an emergency, don’t be afraid to call 911 or mental health hotlines.
