This morning, we welcomed a fantastic group of cyclists to our led ride at Benfield Sports Centre, delivered as part of the Big Bike Revival with Cycling UK.

It was great to see everyone engaged, listening to instructions, and embracing the opportunity to build their cycling skills and confidence.

Back to Basics – The Foundation of Safe Cycling

We started the session with a focus on the essentials:

Helmet checks – making sure every rider’s helmet was fitted correctly. M-checks on bikes – giving participants the confidence to carry out their own pre-ride safety check.

These simple yet important steps help riders feel prepared and safe before setting off, and they are skills that can be used every time they cycle.

Skills Session and Short Group Ride

After our safety checks, we moved to a skills session on the Benfield Sports field, covering braking, steering, signalling, and group communication.

We then headed out on a short group ride around the Walkergate area. This route allowed us to:

Practise road safety and awareness of other road users. Use hand signals with confidence. Build communication skills as a led ride group.

Positive Energy All Round

The group’s enthusiasm made for a brilliant session. It’s always rewarding to see participants gain confidence on the roads and enjoy cycling in a friendly, supportive environment.
